Our efforts to prepare for Mediterranean battles is turning into a bit of a group effort, as both British infantrymen, Free French Legionnaires and Allied armoured formations are taking form. Finishing a platoon is just that much easier if you are several people working at once, even if half the time is spent chatting and not painting! Personally I've been tasked with the job of preparing the mighty British (and occasional Free French!) tanks. The plan is to mass produce the lot, and hopefully I will figure out colour schemes, and how the markings work, by the time the tanks are prepped for painting. We largely based our purchases on two factors: what would be reasonable options for what we plan to start with (Sicily and Italy), and which vehicles would give us the most options, both in armament and in support costs. No need to buy four very similar tanks on support list 5, the first thing you do! With our initial roster ready, there'll be a sad lack of Crusaders and Matildas and other lovely desert tanks, but I would be surprised if these are the last ones we get. Here's a small sneak preview, as I got started on adding stowage to tanks for the first time. I'm a bit anxious not to mess it all up, but hopefully the aid of some reference photos will keep that from happening. A Sherman and a Wolverine getting some sandbags for extra frontal protection after hearing about the wild west shoot-outs in our Stalino campaign. I plan to build some wooden ammo boxes too, to put on the back of them.
/Jonas So it begins... The Pasubio division, sent on the doomed task to aid the Wehrmacht on the Eastern front. Poorly equipped, under-supplied, unwanted by the Germans and a drain on resources that would have been needed in Italy's effort to gain ground in the Mediterranean theatre. I will on the whole keep it correct historically, but there might be some stretches - the same chaps will be called for when we move on to Mid-war Mediterranean fighting. There will be some Bersaglieri forces as well, since they were a part of the CSIR sent to the Soviet Union 1941. And then on to the totally unhistorical British Home Guard, taking on the part of a veteran platoon present on any front in need of tea-drinking, grumbling old men. Pictures to follow in later posts...
